Mavs dominate Hastings to move to 3-0 for first time since '13

CMU drops just nine total games in comfortable win over the Broncos

GRAND ISLAND, Neb.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team completed a perfect 3-0 season-opening weekend in dominating fashion, posting a 7-0 victory over NAIA Hastings College on Saturday morning here inside the Grand Island Tennis Center.
 
The Mavericks won every match in straight sets and dropped just nine combined games in total during the dual win over the Broncos, who were playing for the first time this season.
 
Redshirt junior Alexi Klabunde and freshman Julianna Campos completed 6-0 weekends to help lead CMU.
 
Campos won her No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-1 over Samantha Worthington while Klabunde was a 6-1, 6-0 victor over Hannah Theisen at No. 6.  Campos also teamed with her senior sister Carolena for a 6-0 No. 2 doubles win over Maddie Ketcham and Madelyn Redding while Klabunde and Halle Romero were 6-0 victors over Sasha Richards and Emma Markle in the third doubles flight.
 
The Mavericks were nearly as dominant at the top of the lineup as Issy Coman and Maike Waldburger scored a 6-2 win over Theresa Price and Worthington in the No. 1 doubles match.  Coman also won at No. 1 singles by a 6-0, 6-2 margin over Price while Waldburger took down Richards, 6-0, 6-1 in the second singles flight.

Carolena Campos and Romero also posted identical 6-0, 6-1 victories over Markle and Redding in the middle singles flights.
 
Kira Coffee and Ashley Lundstrom also saw their first action of the weekend posting a 6-3 exhibition doubles win over Thiesen and Jena Davison.
 
The Mavericks are off to their first 3-0 start since the fall of 2013 and will put their perfect record on the line next Friday at 3 p.m. when they take on another NAIA opponent in Ottawa University – Arizona in Surprise, Arizona.
