RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team closed out the week with a 61-57 victory over South Dakota Mines Friday in Rapid City.
Trailing most of the night, the Mavericks used strong fourth quarter performance to come from behind and claim their 11
th win of the season. CMU tallied 17-points in the final frame, while limiting their opponent to just six points. Rebounds also played a big role in tonight's win, with Mesa holding a 40-23 advantage in that category.
16 out of their 40 total rebounds were offensive, allowing the team string together 19-second chance points. The Mavs also used a strong paint presence, scoring 32-points in the lane.
Natalie Bartle was the leading scorer for the Mavs with 17-points on the night, while dishing out five assists.
Sophie Anderson chipped in nine points, and she and Bartle each pulled down seven rebounds.
Valentine Desreumaux had a career night pulling down 13 boards for her team and was just shy of a double-double with 9-points on 4-of-6 shooting. The senior, also notched two assists, a steal and a block to aid in the Maverick win.
The team will make their way back to the Western slope and prepare to take on No. 8 ranked Western State on Tuesday, Feb. 9 in Gunnison.
