GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team committed 30 turnovers and still found a way to secure a 60-38 win over the visiting Adams State Grizzlies on Saturday evening in Brownson Arena in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The 30 turnovers are the most the Mavericks have committed since December 16, 2011 when they turned the ball over 31 times against No. 6 Fort Lewis. It is the most turnovers in
Taylor Wagner's coaching tenure.
Now that the bad is out of the way, let's get to the good things that occurred in the game for the Mavericks.
Colorado Mesa limited the Grizzlies to just 22.2 percent from the field in the game including just 9.1 percent in the second quarter where they made just one field goal and only five points. The Grizzlies final three points, and only field goal, of the quarter came with just four seconds remaining.
The Mavericks outrebounded the Grizzlies in the game 45-24 that led to a 10-5 advantage on second chance points.
Senior
Sierra McNicol had a nice night as she recorded her first double-double of the season and the second of her career, first since January 25, 2019. McNicol had 12 points and 11 rebounds and was efficient making 5-of-8 from the field. On the defensive end, she had three steals.
Fellow senior
Kelsey Siemons tied for the game-high in points with 15 as she also finished 5-for-8 from the field. She finished with seven rebounds two assists, a steal and three blocks.
Morgan Myers-Pack ended up with 14 while
Natalie Bartle had 11 to round out the Mavericks in double-digits.
Colorado Mesa will be on the road next weekend for two important matchups against Colorado School of Mines and Regis.
