Grand Junction, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team dished out a season best 26 assists, along with 15 steals and matched their season high in blocks (9) and 3-point field goals (10), en route to a 90-45 victory over the visiting Adams State Grizzlies, Friday night in Brownson Arena.
The team finished 56.9 percent (37-of-65) from the field, putting together 10 three-pointers for the fifth time this season.
Trevor Baskin produced a team-leading 16-points and five assists, adding three steals and a pair of blocks to round out the night.
Isaac Jessup put up career bests across the board with 15-points and five steals, going 6-for-10 from the floor, adding a trio of threes to his scoring.
Owen Koonce was not far behind with 14-points and five rebounds,
Reece Johnson rounding out the Maverick contingent with 13-points, three rebounds and three assists.
Adams State claimed the first basket of the night but that lead was short lived as the Mavericks offense started to heat up, while the defensive efforts kept the Grizzlies shooting cold.
Midway through the first period CMU had built up their lead to double-figures, maintaining distance for the remainder of the half as they headed into the break up by 12.
The lead would only grow in the second half as the Mavs opened on a 6-0 run, going up by more than 20 with 13-minutes remaining in the game. Another 13-0 run around the five-minute mark put CMU into a 40-point advantage which held strong for the final 90-45 score.
The Grizzlies were held to just 35.6 percent on the night, but did manage two more rebounds than the Mavs, 30-28. Kaelin Crane was the top-scorer with 12-points on top of seven rebounds.
CSU Pueblo is up next for the Mavericks and they come off a break after escaping Salt Lake City with a 78-77 win over Westminster on Thursday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
