Martin, Turner Leads Mavericks in Win over Chadron State

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team had three players in double figures in a 76-52 win over the Chadron State Eagles on Saturday evening in Brownson Arena. The win moves the Mavericks to 8-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference heading into the final week prior to the holiday break.

The Mavericks built a 47-19 halftime lead after shooting 55.6 percent from the field in the first half. They went on an 11-0 run to close out the first quarter and went 54 seconds into the second quarter to take the lead to 20 at 30-10.

The defense was stifling as they limited the Eagles to 35.1 percent shooting for the game but only 25.8 percent in the first half of action. Colorado Mesa made more field goals in the first and second quarter individually then Chadron State had in the entire half.

Mariah Martin led all scorers with 19 points and dished out four assists while teammate Daniella Turner chipped in 18 points. The duo combined 17-for-32 (53.1 percent) shooting from the field.

Kelsey Siemons had her second consecutive double double as she had 15 points and 11 rebounds. She was 5-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Siemons added to her block total for the weekend with three more tonight, giving her 10 on the weekend.

Colorado Mesa led by as many as 39 with 9:18 left in the fourth quarter after Monica Brooks drilled a three-pointer. Brooks finished the evening with seven points.

Nine different players scored as an all-freshman lineup played a majority of the fourth quarter. Chadron State closed the gap in the final quarter of action but the lead was insurmountable.

The Mavericks will continue their home swing heading into the holiday break with a pair of games next weekend in Brownson Arena. They will take on Adams State on Friday before a showdown with first-place CSU Pueblo on Saturday with both tipoffs set for 5:30pm.
