Mavericks Sink Buccaneers 92-37

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team had seven players score in double figures as the Mavericks secured a 92-37 win over the Park University Buccaneers on Friday as part of the Al Kaly Classic at Massari Arena.

The Last time the Mavericks scored at least 92 points came on November 29, 2019 when they defeated University of the Southwest 92-25 in Brownson Arena during the Holiday Inn Airport Thanksgiving Shootout.

Colorado Mesa (3-0) limited Park to just seven points in the first and five points in the second to build a 44-12 halftime lead. They added to that after one of their largest quarters in the past two seasons, scoring 32 points in the third quarter.

Newcomer Emily Cavey led all scorers with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. She also had two rebounds nnd an assist.

Sophie Anderson, Daniella Turner and Monica Brooks all had 11 points while Mariah Martin and Kelsey Siemons each had 10 points.

Freshman Lauryn Deede saw action in her first game and made the most of the opportunity as she finished with 12 points and four rebounds in 10 minutes of action.

Colorado Mesa shot 56 percent from the floor but continued to struggle to find the range from the three-point line making just three on 12 attempts. They outrebounded the Bucs 48-30 and forced 26 turnovers in the win.

The Mavericks will be on the road on Tuesday with a matchup against Division I Utah Valley University that will be streamed on ESPN+ at 6pm. The Wolverines played Park earlier this season and came away with a 90-47 win.
