GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team flexed their muscles on Sunday afternoon with a 46-1 win over Dixie State in the first dual for the Mavericks this season.
The Mavericks won every bout that was contested and one by forfeit. Five of those nine wins came via the pin with the others coming by technical fall. The Trailblazers lone point came at 123-pounds as Lilliam=n Broadrick recorded a 16-6 technical fall win. Because Dixie State scored in the bout, they are awarded a team point.
Kaylie Catalano and
Maya Cortes opened the dual with a pin at 101 and 109 before three straight technical fall wins by
Anja Tschohl, Lillian Brodrick and
Claire DiCugno.
Jolynn Harris picked up a pin at 136 while Kaylee Haynes earned a 12-0 technical fall win at 143 punds. Haynes secured three four-point takedowns in her win.
Zoe Gress and
Alex Brulotte secured the final two contested wins of the dual with pins at 155 and 170 pounds. Jyleen Sekona earned the forfeit win at 191 pounds.
The Mavericks will be back in action on December 4 at the Rocky Mountain Invitational in Great Falls, Mont.
