CANYON, Texas – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team closed out the South Central Region Challenge with a 46-43 win over West Texas A&M in the First United Bank Center on Saturday evening.
The win is the first-ever by the Mavericks over the WT and just the 37
th all-time loss for the Lady Buffs in the First United Bank Center that dates back to 2002.
Colorado Mesa led 23-14 at halftime after scoring just six points in the first quarter. They good news was that they limited the Lady Buffs to just four points in the opening frame of action. They limited West Texas A&M to just 27.3 percent from the field and just two-made three-pointers.
The Mavericks got a game-high 17 points from
Mariah Martin who was perfect from the line, nailing down the final two points in the win. Six of her 17 points came in the fourth quarter while the Lady Buffs were making their run.
Daniella Turner finished with her first double-double of the season with 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
West Texas A&M's Alivia Lewis finished with a team-high 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Mavericks will be on the road again next weekend but will stay in the state as they will take on Park University in Pueblo next Friday.
