Grand Junction, Colo. – The hot streak continues for the Colorado Mesa women's soccer team, securing their third straight clean sheet with a 4-0 defeat of Colorado Christian, Friday night under the lights of Maverick Field.
The Mavericks put on a season-high 33 shots, landing 15 on goal. The visiting Cougars, managed to only get seven shots on, two between the posts.
At no surprise to Maverick fans, but a shock to the Cougars who didn't expect the Mavs to score in the first minute, let alone go-up by two in just two minutes of play.
Lila Dere pushed the limits, striking the ball well outside the box, soaring into the upper right corner for the team's first score. Just a minute and half later,
Sophia Beames timed a pass in towards the goal frame, finding
Mikayla Eccher who left no doubt on the team's second goal.
After going down, the Cougars defense turned it up a notch not allow the Mavericks to get another one through. Still the Mavs tallied 24 shots in the first half alone.
The defense continued into the next 45-minute period, CMU only taking nine shots. Dere finally broke through again in the 63
rd minute,
Carli Dare passing one through for her third assist of the campaign.
In the 75
th minute, the Mavs found the net for the fourth time, this time
Adessa Correa using her head to get up and over the keeper, thanks to a beautiful cross from
Sydney Prestia.
Chloe Dody had two saves on the night, teaming up with
Maria Martinez for the shutout.
Sunday's final regular season home game has Colorado Mesa taking on the Roadrunners of MSU Denver. It will also serve as Senior Day, where seven seniors will be honored for their time in Maroon and Gold. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
