Grand Junction, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team pushed their win streak to five, behind a 3-0 shutout of Western Colorado in Sunday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Mavericks outshot their opponents by a 19-4 margin, and kept the visiting Mountaineers to just a single shot on goal.
Chloe Dody came away with the lone save,
Maria Martinez seeing some pitch time as well between the pipes.
Lila Dere was at the forefront of the Mavericks shot pressure, taking six on the afternoon, coming away with a pair of goals and boosting her season total to 13.
Adessa Correa got in on scoring in the 74
th minute, for her second score of fall campaign.
Just 11-minutes following the opening whistle, Dere came up with her first goal finding the upper left corner. The brace was made complete when she got in front of the Mountaineers defender for a 1v1 with the keeper, sending a low shot into the back of the net.
With the 2-0 advantage just midway through the opening half, the Mavs maintained that lead for a majority of the latter period before Correa caught up with a pass from
Michaela Dangler and made it 3-nill in favor of CMU.
The Mountaineers were withheld from taking a shot in the second period, Dangler and Devyn Parson logging all 90-minutes and playing a key role in keeping the ball out of the WCU attacking third.
Colorado Mesa has won their last five contests and move to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The 2006 squad was the last team to string together five consecutive wins for the Mavericks.
The team will remain at home, playing their last set of home games against Colorado Christian Friday, followed by MSU Denver Sunday.
