Mavs Tripped Up by Late Goal

PUEBLO, Colo. –  A single goal, late in the second half by the home team, tripped up the Colorado Mesa women's soccer team Friday evening at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium on the CSU Pueblo campus.

The Mavericks had the upper hand in shots, taking 12 on the night and putting five on frame. CSU Pueblo had just seven, and took just three on goal.

In a back and forth affair, the teams were left scoreless after the first 45-minutes of play.

As the second half go underway, the Mavs turned up the offensive pressure taking eight shots, four of which would be turned away. The possession would remain in Thunderwolves territory, with five of CMU's seven corner kicks coming in the second half alone.

With time winding down, the deciding factor came in the 83rd-minute from CSUP's Faith Meredith, picking up her first goal of the season.

Time continued to tick down, and Lexi Newton go a shot off in the 87th-minute but would be stopped as the Thunderwolves escaped with the late goal and the win.

The Mavs will now turn their attention to top-ranked UCCS, game time scheduled for Sunday at 12 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium.
