Mavericks Advance to Semifinal Game Behind Rigsby’s Career Night

#1 Mavericks Face #4 Colorado School of Mines Friday night at 5:30 pm

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Behind a career high 26 points from Kylyn Rigsby the Colorado Mesa Mavericks defeated MSU Denver 60-46 Tuesday night to advance to the semifinals of the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Mavericks will host the remainder of the RMAC Tournament with semifinal games on Friday night and a championship game on Saturday night. As the top seed the Mavericks will play #4 Colorado School of Mines at 5:30 pm which will be followed by #7 Dixie State playing against #3 Westminster at 7:30 pm.

Rigsby recorded five three pointers in tonight's game and shot 9-of-18 from the field to reach her career high. This is the second game this season the junior has recorded 20 plus points.

Junior Daniella Turner added 20 points off the bench as her and Rigsby were the only Mavericks to finish in double figures.

Sydni Brandon grabbed a game high 11 rebounds and recorded five assists and three steals. Sierra McNicol recorded six rebounds while Turner recorded seven to help the Mavs outrebound the Roadrunners 35-30.

The Mavericks shot 38.5 percent from the field, 32.0 percent from the three-point line, and 80.0 percent from the free throw line while limiting the Roadrunners to 34.0 percent from the field. 28.6 percent from the three-point line, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.

The Mavericks started the game on a 7-0 run before MSU Denver scored with seven minutes to play in the first quarter. The Mavericks were up by as much as eight points before the Roadrunners went on a run to get within three, 14-11 at the 2:45 minute mark. Rigsby scored ten first quarter points to help the Mavericks to a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. From then on the Mavs went on to outscore the Roadrunners in each of the remaining quarters. The Mavericks continuously put away the Raodrunners and reached their largest lead of the game, 55-40, with 5:18 left in the fourth quarter.  

Turner recorded 14 of her points in the second half to help secure the win.

The #1 Mavericks will play #4 Colorado School of Mines in a semifinal game Friday night in Brownson Arena. With a win they will advance to the final game of the tournament which will be played on Saturday night at 6 pm against the winner of #3 Westminster and #7 Dixie State.
