Mavericks Fall in Season Opener to #9 Lindenwood

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – In a NCAA regional rematch from a year ago, two nationally ranked programs met in game one of the 2020 season. No. 9 Lindenwood got their revenge in a 19-7 win over Colorado Mesa on Saturday morning at Teton Park Field in a non-conference matchup.

After playing to an even score at 1-1 through the first five minutes of action, the Lions went on a 4-0 run to make it 5-1 before the Mavericks could answer.

Lindenwood separated themselves at the end of the first half and into the second half, going on a 9-0 run to make it 17-3 with 22 minutes left in the game.

Colorado Mesa scored four of the final six goals in the game including a hat trick by Ashton Whittle. All three of Whittle's goals were unassisted and occurred in the final 12 minutes of action.

Freshman Regan Wentz made a solid debut finishing with a goal, two ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Colorado Mesa will be back in action on February 21 when they travel to Minnesota for a pair of games against Concordia St. Paul and Upper Iowa.
