Mavericks Fall to Concordia St. Paul on the Road 15-4

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team (0-2) suffered their second loss of the season Friday afternoon at the Concordia Dome to Concordia – St. Paul (3-0) by a score of 15-4. The Mavericks were led by junior Kenzie Blackwell who recorded two goals against the Bears and two grounds balls along with one caused turnover.

The Mavericks were outshot 42-13 but put 11 of their 13 shots on frame while the Bears recorded 27 shots on goal.  

Maeve Hungerford tied Blackwell with a team high two points as she recorded her second goal of season. Lauren Wick, the Mavericks' other scorer, recorded the first goal of her season in today's game.

The Bears opened the game on a four goal scoring run before Hungerford recorded the Mavericks' first goal with 13:02 remaining in the first half. The Bears went on to score ten unanswered goals before Lauren Wick scored a free position shot making the score 14-2 in favor of the Bears with 12:06 remaining in regulation. 

The Bears recorded a man up goal at the expense of a Colorado Mesa yellow card with under ten minutes to play. The Mavericks then answered with the final two goals of the game each recorded by Blackwell which settled the score 15-4.

Blackwell's  second goal was assisted by Hungerford.

Lula Mitchell recorded the start in the net for the Mavericks and finished with a season high 12 saves. Mitchell picked up a team high six ground balls aswell.

Kelsey Viger finished with a team high three caused turnovers along with three ground balls.

The Bears were led by Maddie Hentges who recorded a game high six goals. Three other bears finished with multiple goals.

Next Up

The Mavericks will host Northern Michigan University in their home opener on Mar 4 at Walker Field. The game is scheduled to being at 7 pm.
