Mistakes and Home Runs Haunt Mavericks in Series Finale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Colorado Mesa fell for the first time in 2020 with an 11-7 loss to Nova Southeastern on getaway day at NSU Baseball Complex. The Mavericks will return to Colorado with a road series win to begin the season.

Mistakes were costly in the matchup as Colorado Mesa committed two errors that led to five unearned Nova Southeastern runs.

In the third inning, the Sharks tallied eight runs with four coming on a grand slam by freshman Olivier Mayrand to give Nova the 8-2 lead.

The Sharks would add two more home runs for their 11 runs.

The Mavericks kept it close and got a pair of home runs from sophomore catcher Haydn McGeary. The Peoria, Ariz. native's first was a solo shot in the first inning and he backed it up in the fifth inning with a three-run shot to left field.

Spencer Bramwell, playing third base in game three, finished the game 3-for-4.

Freshman Jared took the ball in game three of the series and took the loss on the mound. Ure pitched just two and two-thirds innings but retired six sharks via the strikeout.

Colorado Mesa will return home to begin a 15-game home stand at Suplizio Field. Up first, nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire with a three-game series beginning on Friday at 2:30pm. It will be the season opener for the Penmen.
