Mavericks Belt Six Home Runs in Home Opening Win

Spencer Bramwell Connects for Three Home Runs

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior Spencer Bramwell belted three home runs and drove in five runs to lead No. 3 Colorado Mesa to a 22-5 win over No. 9 Southern New Hampshire in the Mavericks home opener at Suplizio Field.

Bramwell hit his first home run as a part of a six run second inning. He lofted a two-strike pitch over the fence in right field that barely cleared the fence. At the time, the homer tied the game at 1-1.

One inning later, he drilled another solo home run over the left field fence. The no doubter gave the Mavericks a 7-1 lead in the third inning.

The San Clemente, Calif. native's final home run came in the seventh inning, a shot to center field to make it 17-3. He finished the day 4-for-5 with four runs scored and five runs driven in.

Bramwell was the first Maverick to homer three times since April 27, 2003 when Matt Lenertz hit three home runs against Regis in a 16-15 win at Suplizio Field.

Bramwell wasn't the only Maverick that hit a home run as they tallied six as a team. Tyler Parker finished the game with a pair of home runs, a solo home run in the second and a two-run shot in the fourth. Parker finished his home debut with three hits and three runs scored.

Tanner Garner was the only other Maverick with a home run in the game. Garner's home run was also a part of the six-run second inning and was a three-run shot to left field. The sophomore finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and three runs driven in.

Andrew Morris got the start on the mound and earned his first win of the season. Morris pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits, walked four and struck out five before giving way to his bullpen.

The combination of Josh Danyliw and Anthony Durbano closed out the game. The duo combined for four innings allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit while striking out five.

Southern New Hampshire's Marcus Chavez and Jake Coro each had two hits for the Penmen.

Colorado Mesa moved their records to 3-1 on the season while the Penmen fall to 0-1.

The two teams will continue the series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game beginning at 1pm.
