#2 Mavericks Nab Game Two from #9 Southern New Hampshire

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – No. 3 Colorado Mesa scored in five of the eight innings they batted in and was able to hold off No. 9 Southern New Hampshire 6-4 in the middle game of a three game series at Suplizio Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of play but the Penmen tied the game at three a side after scoring three runs in the fifth inning.

Caleb Farmer took the lead right back for the Mavericks with his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left center field to make the score 4-3.

Once again, Southern New Hampshire answered in the top half of the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4.

Freshman Jonathan Gonzalez gave the Mavericks the lead for good, delivering a RBI double down the left field line that scored Jordan Stubbings on the play. The double was the first of his collegiate career and made the score 5-4.

Colorado Mesa added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a misplayed fly ball by Southern New Hampshire.

Sophomore designated hitter Haydn McGeary finished the game with three hits including a pair of doubles while Farmer was the only other Maverick with a multi-hit game with two.

Senior Trevin Reynolds got the start on the mound and allowed three runs on four hits, walked two and struck out six in five innings of work. He did not factor into the decision.

Sophomore reliever Gage Edwards earned the win after allowing one run on two hits, walked one and struck out two in two innings of relief of Reynolds.

Garrett Tisdall earned the save, firing the final inning of perfect baseball.

The Mavericks and Penmen will play the series finale tomorrow at a new start time of 11am.
