FORT LAUDERDALE, Utah – The No. 3 Colorado Mesa baseball pitching staff limited the No. 16 Nova Southeastern Sharks to just five hits in a 6-2 win on Friday evening in game two of the three game non-conference series at NSU Baseball Complex.
Senior
Trevin Reynolds got the ball and was fantastic in his first start of the season. The Las Vegas native allowed just two hits and struck out three in five shutout innings of work where he only threw 67 pitches. Reynolds (1-0) retired the first ten batters he faced until he allowed a one out single to Brandon Chinea in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Enter
Gage Edwards for the sixth inning and he immediately retires the first three batters he faced. Edwards ran into some trouble in the seventh inning and ended up finished up allowing two runs on three hits, walked two and strikes out two in two and two-thirds innings of work.
Junior
Frankie Fitzgerald pitched the final inning and a third and struck out two, retiring the four batters he faced.
Colorado Mesa tallied single runs in the first three innings, building a 3-0 lead. They ended up going on a four inning scoreless drought until scoring a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning.
Conrad Villafuerte lashed a 0-0 single to right field, scoring

Sophomore
Tanner Garner continued his hot start to the season going 3-for-5 on Friday night. Through the first two games, Garner is 6-for-9 with two doubles and three stolen bases.
The Mavericks will go for the opening weekend series sweep on Saturday at 11am.
