GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 3 Colorado Mesa baseball team committed six errors in a 10-2 loss to Northwest Nazarene in the series finale on Saturday (Feb. 22) at Suplizio Field. Despite the loss, the Mavericks won the series over the Nighthawks three games to one.
Colorado Mesa allowed nine runs on six hits and committed six errors as a part of the big fourth inning for the Nighthawks. That was the story for the game for the Mavericks as they could never recover from the hole they dug in the fourth.
Jacob Rhoades pitched the Mavericks out of the fourth inning and turned in a nice performance on the afternoon. Rhoades pitched three and two-thirds innings and allowed just one hit, walked two and struck out one.
The Mavericks didn't score until the bottom of the ninth inning with one out when Hayden McGeary laced a 3-2 pitch to right center field for a two-run double.
Colorado Mesa will continue their home stand next week with a four-game series against NSIC foe Minot State at Suplizio Field.
