SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team headed out on the road for their first road trip of the season and on the first night came away with their first loss of the season in a 60-50 setback to Black Hills State.
Colorado Mesa closed out the game making just one basket in their last 12 attempts while the Yellow Jackets finished on a 10-2 run in the final 2:11 of play.
The Mavericks didn't have an answer for Yellow Jacket Racquel Wientjes as she finished with 26 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field. She added three three-pointers and was 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Three-point shooting was a huge discrepancy in the game as the Mavericks made just three (3-for-17) three-pointers, Black Hills State made nine (9-for-28).
Sierra McNicol had a solid evening for the Mavericks finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds to complete her second career double-double. She added two assists and two steals.

Natalie Bartle finished with a team-high 14 points.
The Mavericks will travel south to Chadron, Neb. for a matchup with Chadron State tomorrow evening at 5:30pm.
