Grand Junction, Colo.—The Colorado Mesa University men's wrestling team will welcome in San Francisco State for senior night on Thursday at 6 pm inside Brownson Arena.
Last Time on the Mat:
This past weekend the Mavericks split while hosting the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves and the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers.
Battle in Brownson: The Thunderwolves were the opponents on Friday night as they were part of the Battle in Brownson. CMU would prevail in the Battle in Brownson defeating CSU-Pueblo 23-22. The Mavericks would win four out of a potential nine matchups which included a forfeit at the 125-pound weight class, which was ultimately the difference in the dual.
However, on Saturday the Mavericks were out-matched by the ninth ranked Orediggers and would fall 28-11. Colorado Mesa would win three matches against Colorado School of Mines including major decisions by
Fred Green and
Nolan Krone.
Senior Night:
The Colorado Mesa men's wrestling team will honor four wrestlers
Kyle Kintz,
Pat Romero,
Tim Romero and
Payton Tawater as part of the evening at intermission, which will occur after the fifth match.
Rumbling Mavericks:
CMU has three wrestlers that are on four-match winning streaks or longer with
Fred Green,
Nolan Krone and
Daniel Van Hoose.
- Fred Green is on a 12-match winning streak. During his tear, he has defeated four Division I wrestlers including Jordan Robinson from Northern Colorado and Jake Silverstein from Nebraska. Green also garnered six falls including one against Trace Carello from Air Force.
- Nolan Krone has been victorious in seven straight matches. During his run, he has had two falls and a major decision. Including a technical fall against Jayson Davis of CSU-Pueblo defeating him 16-0, in 5:22.
- Daniel Van Hoose has won four straight matches. During his streak, which includes a fall and three decisions.
Scouting the Gators:
San Francisco State comes into Grand Junction with a 7-5 mark overall and 1-3 in the RMAC. SFSU has also defeated Chadron State College the score of that dual was 32-17. The Gators will wrestle against the Western Mountaineers prior to wrestling the Mavericks as part of a double-dual.
The Gators have three grapplers ranked inside the top ten in their respective weight classes here are some wrestlers to watch:
- Mason Boutain ranks sixth at 149 pounds with a record of 16-6. Boutain has nine falls and a major decision against sixth ranked Josiah Rider of Adams State.
- Maxamillian Schneider wrestles at the 157-pound weight class is has a perfect 16-0 mark he is also ranked fourth in his class. He has garnered 12 falls this season including one over seventh ranked Chase Clasen of Chadron State.
- Justin Pichedwatana is ranked third at 184 pounds with an overall record of 23-2 and has nine falls of his own.

After Thursday's match-up CMU will close out the regular season on the road with duals at New Mexico Highlands, Adams State and Western before going to Kearney, Nebraska for the NCAA Super Region VI tournament on February 29
th.
