YORK, Neb. -- The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team continued its dual meet success by winning the York Duals with a perfect 4-0 record on the day. The Mavericks took down a pair of highly ranked NAIA teams on the day and moved their dual record to 7-3 on the season.

Colorado Mesa won four of the five contested bouts in a 38-10 win over Ottawa (Kan.) to open the dual tournament. The Mavericks received forfeits at 101, 123, 143, and 170 while giving up the 191 pound weight class. Anja Tschohl and Dalia Garibay each earned wins by pin while Jennesis Martinez and Sierra Brown Ton earned technical fall victories.

The Mavericks advanced to the Gold Pool after a 32-16 win over Schriener in the pool C finale. Colorado Mesa won seven of the ten bouts that included three straight pins from 143 to 170. Kaylee Lacy earned a pin at 143 pounds followed by an Alma Mendoza pin wrestling up at 155 pounds. Mayte Villada closed the run with a pin at 170 pounds in 2:01 over Mikayla Mata.

In the first match in the Gold/Championship Pool, the Mavericks defeated the NAIA's seventh-ranked team in Cumberlands from Kentucky, 33-11. Colorado Mesa won seven of the nine bouts (double forfeit at 191) including three pins. Anja Tschohl picked up her second pin of the day in 1:10 over Madison Angelito at 116 pounds while Marissa Gallegos earned a pin in 1:49 over Ashley Tobe at 123 pounds. Alma Mendoza earned her second pin of the day as well at 143 pounds with a 52 second pin of Jessica Torres.

In the final dual of the day, Colorado Mesa earned an impressive 30-16 win over Jamestown (N.D.) who entered the dual ranked No. 3 in the NAIA. The Mavericks won six bouts with three of those coming by pin and they earned two others by forfeit. Jennesis Martinez finished her day 4-0 after a pin 5:55, wrestling up at 109 pounds while Marissa Gallegos closed out her 4-0 day with a technical fall win at 123 pounds over AnnMarie Hidalgo. Alma Mendoza ended up going 4-0 wrestling between 143 and 155 pounds and closed out the day with a solid pin of Jacqueline Parks in 2:46.


The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow at the York Open. Wrestling is slated to begin at 9am.
