LOUISVILLE – The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team concluded the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals on Saturday with a fourth-place finish out of the 15 total NCAA women's teams that competed. It was their first-ever appearance in the National Duals for the Mavericks.

Head coach
Travis Mercado never shies away from competition and in the semifinals got the stiffest Division II competition out there in No. 1 McKendree. The Bearcats dealt the Mavericks a 33-7 setback to drop them into the third-place bout later in the day.
Marissa Gallegos avenged her lone two losses on the year to Alexia Ward with a 7-7 criteria victory as one of the Mavericks two wins. Fourth-ranked Gallegos had lost twice to second-ranked Ward at the Missouri Valley Open earlier this season.
At 130 pounds,
Cindy Zepeda earned an 8-4 decision over Shaina Murray.
Three bouts featured ranked wrestlers squaring off with each other with the Bearcats winning two of the three.

Travis Mercado faced his former team for the first time since starting the Maverick program a year ago in King University. The Tornado defeated the Mavericks 33-15 in the third-place match of the National Duals.
In yet another stacked bout list, four matchups featured ranked wrestlers squaring off with each other.
Fourth-ranked
Dalia Garibay defeated Alyssa Aceval at 136 pounds, 9-4. Aceval is ranked fourth at 130 pounds and had previously defeated Garibay in high school.
The Tornado won the other three ranked matchups.
Aleena Gomez earned a pin at 116 pounds while
Kaylie Catalano was awarded a forfeit at 101 pounds.
