LOUISVILLE – The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team had a banner day at the first day of the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals at Freedom Hall. The Mavericks advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Women's Divison of the tournament after winning their first two duals of the day.
#5 COLORADO MESA 33, LIMESTONE 8
Colorado Mesa opened the NWCA National Duals with an impressive 33-8 win over Limestone. The Mavericks, seeded No. 5 for the bracketed dual tournament, won the first seven bouts of the dual by either a tech fall or fall en route to the win.
Jennesis Martinez (101),
Aleena Gomez (116), and
Cindy Zepeda (130) all won their bouts by way of a pin.
Anja Tschohl won her first bout wrestling at 109 pounds for the first time this season, earning a tech fall win over Alyssa Garza.
Alma Mendoza earned a forfeit victory at 143 pounds.

The Mavericks advanced to the semifinals after knocking off fourth-seeded Emmanuel 34-11 in the quarterfinals of the NWCA National Duals. They won eight of the ten weights including three wins over ranked wrestlers.
At 101 pounds,
Jennesis Martinez continued her solid day with an 8-4 decision victory over third-ranked Iesha Washington. Martinez moved her record to 10-2 on the season and is now 2-1 against ranked opponents.
Marissa Gallegos earned a 13-0 technical fall victory over sixth-ranked Emily Se, giving the Mavericks a 15-2 lead in the dual. Gallegos is 14-2 on the year and is now 4-2 against ranked opponents.
Both
Dalia Garibay and Julia Padilla wrestle at 136 pounds but for this dual both bumped up and wrestled at 143 pounds. Garibay came away with the 11-0 tech fall win over third-ranked Padilla, sealing the dual victory for the Mavericks. The freshman is now 7-3 on the season and 3-1 against ranked opponents.
