GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa Maverick women's soccer team picked up their second win of the season this Sunday in a nonconference match up against RMAC opponent and rival Western. Senior Taylor Jones and Zoe Peterson each recorded a goal in the home opener to keep the Mavericks undefeated. They imporve to 2-0-0 on the short season.

The Mavericks took 20 shots and recorded seven corner kicks. 11 of those 20 shots were on goal as they forced Western's Kaeyla Noble to make nine saves while in the net.

Kamrie Gunderson was awarded the win as starting goalkeeper for the Mavericks and finished the day with three saves.

Sydney Hathaway found Jones in the 22^nd minute of the game to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead, which lasted all throughout the first half.

The Mavericks scored once more in the second half. Hathaway took a shot that bounced off the goal post right to Peterson who was able to find the back of the net and give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead in the 57^th minute.

The Mountaineers kept it interesting by scoring their first goal in the 58^th minute; however, the Maverick defense was able to keep Western from tying the game. Gunderson recorded two saves following this goal, which allowed the Mavs to secure their second win of the season and remain undefeated.

The Mavericks will stay at home next weekend and play Nebraska Kearney at 7 pm on Friday and Newman at 2 pm on Sunday. Both game will be played at Walker Field.
