Box Score ODESSA, Texas, - Four different Maverick players scored in the season opener against Texas Permain Basin Thursday morning. This is the second consecutive year the women's soccer team has opened up their season with a victory.
Madison Rasimas led the team with three points as she recorded one goal and one assist. Sydney Hathaway recorded the first goal of her Maverick career in her debut game as a starter.
Lexi Newton and Alexis Allard each recorded a goal of their own.
The Mavericks allowed only six total shots and zero corner kicks for the Falcons. Sophomore goalkeeper Kamrie Gunderson was awarded the win as she played all 90 minutes in the net. She recorded three saves while only allowing one goal.
Newton got the Mavericks on the board quickly recording the first goal of the season just 11 minutes into the match. The Falcons tied it up in the 26th minute but Hathaway scored two minutes before half to take a lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Falcons took five shots and forced Gunderson to make three saves but zero of those turned into a goal.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Mavs recorded back-to-back goals with Rasimas playing a part in both. Rasimas recorded her first goal of the season in the 58th minute and then assisted Allard's goal in the 75th minutes. This final goal of the game marked Allard's 15th career goal.
