Mavericks Fall to Nationally Ranked Mountain Lions

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –  The Colorado Mesa University Maverick women's soccer team put up a gritty fight throughout the first half limiting No.2 UCCS to just three of their 14 total shots, but ultimately fell 2-0 in Sunday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at Walker Field.

The Maverick offense was shutout for the second time this season and did not record a shot on goal for the first time this season.

UCCS and the Mavericks were scoreless throughout the first 45 minutes of the game and the Mavericks did not attempt a shot. Both teams got more aggressive in the second half as UCCS took 11 shots and the Mavericks took three shots.

The Mountain Lions found the back of the net after a corner kick during the 59th minute to give themselves a 1-0. They later scored during the 87th minute to secure the win and improve to a perfect 8-0-0 on the season. Following this game the Mavericks fell to an even 4-4-0 on the year and 1-3-0 in conference.

The Mavericks are through their toughest part of the RMAC season as they have now seen two top ten opponents in back-to-back weekends. Looking ahead the Mavericks will travel to the front range of Colorado next weekend and face Regis University and Black Hills State.

On Friday October 4th the Mavericks will play the Rangers of Regis University at 3:30 pm on the Regis Match Pitch. On Sunday October 6th the Mavericks will play Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D. at the Ronnie Theisz Field.
