Mavs take down Tigers, 6-1

CMU is 3-1 heading into ITA Regional

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team took care of business in their only home match of the fall season defeating visiting Colorado College, 6-1 on Saturday morning at the Elliott Tennis Center.
 
The Mavericks improved to 3-1 with the victory in their last team match of the fall while the Tigers fell to 0-3.  CMU will wrap up the fall season at next week's ITA West Regional Championships in Azusa, California.  That individual style tournament gets underway Thursday.
 
The Mavericks will be riding high after dominating the Tigers on Saturday. 
 
CMU swept the doubles point and then won five of the six singles matches, four of them in straight sets.
Alain De La Bastide and Moises Cure lead the Mavericks as the teamed for a 6-4 No. 1 doubles win over Noah Forman and Jacob Adas.  Both De La Bastide and Cure also won at No. 2 and 3 singles.
 
De La Bastide was the first Maverick to win taking down Adas, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1).  Cure then won over Billy Taylor, 6-3, 6-1.
 
Freshman Tyler Landen then won his fourth straight singles match with ease taking down Alex Wimer, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.  That victory clinched the dual.
 
Steven Howe, who partnered with Landen for a 6-3 No. 2 doubles win, was also a singles winner.  Howe won 6-3, 6-4 over Alex Kley in the fifth flight.
 
Meanwhile, Mitchell Steadman claimed a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 No. 6 singles win while Christian Albrechtsen and Thiago Nejm won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles over Kley and Jacob Pentz.
 
The Mavericks were also successful in several exhibition matches as Steadman and Cody Carlton won in doubles while Nejm, Carlton and Chapin Schott were all victorious in singles.
