GOLDEN, Colo. – Despite being the first to score the Colorado Mesa Mavericks women's soccer team lost 2-1 Sunday morning to Colorado School of Mines in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup. The Mavericks' record now falls to 4-2-0 and 1-1-0 in conference.
Zoe Peterson recorded the opening goal in the 18th minute to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead that lasted till the 33rd minute when Colorado Mines evened the score. CSM quickly scored again just three minutes later to go up 2-1 going into the break.
The Mavericks took five shots in the second half and two shots on goal to attempt to even the score but none found the back of the net.
Kamrie Gunderson recorded six saves which is a season high for the sophomore from Phoenix. Freshmen defender Bobbie Golik recorded her first career start along with freshmen forward Mikayla Eccher.
Next Up
The Mavericks will return home to Walker Field next weekend for more RMAC games. First they will play MSU-Denver at 7 pm on Friday followed by a game on Sunday against UCCS at 1:30.
