Mavericks Begin RMAC Play at Walker Field

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks men's soccer team will officially begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this weekend against Fort Lewis College and CSU – Pueblo. On Friday September 20th the Mavericks will take on FLC at 7 pm on Walker Field. Two days later, they will host CSU-Pueblo on September 22nd at 1:30 pm.

So far, the season the Mavs have a 2-1 record and are currently on a two-game win streak. They most recently defeated Northwest Nazarene University 3-1 and recorded their first road win of the year. Their one loss came in the first game of the season against Eastern New Mexico. As a apart of their two game win streak the Mavs defeated Newman University 4-1 prior to their match against NNU. 

Alec Fronapfel leads the team with two goals in just 40 minutes of action. Ramses Atahualpa has recorded three assists this season all of which came against NNU where he assisted each of the Maverick's three goals.

Entering RMAC play Fronapfel and Atahualpa lead the conference in points with four and three, respectfully. Maverick Aaron Martinez sits third against conference opponent's tied with Atahualpa with three points. He has one goals and one assist.

Scouting Fort Lewis

The Skyhawks of Durango are 2-0-2 and have recorded seven goals over a four games stretch. They are led by Ryan Lee who currently leads the conference in goals and shots. He has 23 shots and three goals this season. 

The Skyhawks ave utilized one goalkeeper this season who has recorded 0.90 goals against average and recorded 21 saves. He has allowed four goals this season. 

Scouting CSU-Pueblo

Entering the weekend, the Thunderwolves are 0-4. They have recorded four goals this season and allowed 10. Most recently, they were shutout by Rogers State 0-2.

Their one common opponent with the Mavs is Newman University where they lost 3-2.

Next Up

The Mavericks will continue RMAC play on the road next weekend against MSU-Denver and Colorado Christian University. The match against MSU-Denver will be held at the Regency Athletic Complex at 3 pm on Friday Sept 27th.

On the 29th, the Mavericks will travel to Lakewood, Colorado and face CCU at 2:30 pm at the Trailblazer Stadium.
