Kasie Gilfert recorded a match-high 16 kills and hit an impressive .625 in a 3-set defeat at the hands of Missouri Western State University on Saturday morning here in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
The 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 loss to the Griffons ended the Mavericks' 1-3 weekend at the Drury Invitational and leaves them with a 4-4 overall record heading into the start of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend.
The Griffons improved to 6-1 for the first time since 2006 with the victory as they had four different players with eight or more kills.
MWSU hit .320 as a team and took advantage of nine Maverick service errors throughout the match.
They also had a big 49-36 advantage in total digs as the Mavericks were also guilty of 16 hitting errors.
Gilfert was also in on three of CMU's six blocks.
Outside hitters
Katie Scherr (8) and
Holly Schmidt (5) also combined for 13 more kills while sophomore libero
Kerstin Layman had 14 digs.
