GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 1 Colorado Mesa baseball team split a doubleheader with the Dixie State Trailblazers in the final regular season games for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field.
In game one of the day, Dixie State scored in four of the seven innings on their way to a 10-5 win over the Mavericks. The win by the Trailblazers snaps a 10-game losing streak to Colorado Mesa.
The Mavericks could only muster five hits in the game with three of those going for home runs.
Dominic DeMarco hit his ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the first while
Caleb Farmer followed with his solo home run later in the inning.
Chase Hamilton hit his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, a solo shot to left field.
AJ Landis took the loss on the mound and fell to 5-3 on the season.
In the regular season finale, Colorado Mesa had the odd inning spike by scoring two in the first, four in the third, and two in the fifth in an 8-6 series clinching win over Dixie State.
Jordan Stubbings continued his hot hitting by going 4-for-4 with a double and two home runs. Stubbings went back-to-back with
Dominic DeMarco in the first inning of game two to knot the game at 2-2. The home run was DeMarco's 11
th of the season.
He hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, his 12
th of the season, to give the Mavericks a 4-2 lead. The sophomore scored four runs and drove in four.
Sophomore
Garrett Tisdall picked up the win in relief of starter
John Beaudrie. Tisdall (1-0) allowed one run on three hits, walked one and struck out one to earn his first win of the season.
Senior
Will Dixon had one of his easiest saves of the year, pitching to just one batter and getting the strikeout for his 10
th save of the season.
Colorado Mesa will host the RMAC Tournament beginning on Wednesday. The Mavericks will likely take on CSU-Pueblo at 3pm but will await the bracket release slated for some time on Sunday.
