GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 1 ranked and No. 1 seeded Colorado Mesa baseball team did something on Saturday that is extremely difficult to do in a season, they defeated a team for the seventh time this season.
The Mavericks defeated Colorado School of Mines 11-1 on Saturday in the NCAA South Central Region I baseball tournament championship at Suplizio Field. With the win, Colorado Mesa advances to next week's South Central Super Region Tournament.
Trevin Reynolds was brilliant on the mound as he allowed one run on six hits, walked two and struck out in 11 in eight innings of work. Reynolds (5-1) retired nine in a row at one point and didn't allow a runner to reach third base until the seventh inning.

Will Dixon came in to pitch a perfect ninth inning, striking out the final batter of the tournament.
The Mavericks got thing going in the third inning, scoring two runs to take the lead that they wouldn't relinquish. They added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before plating two in the eighth and exploding for five runs in the ninth.
Every starter in the Mavericks lineup recorded a hit.
Jordan Stubbings finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. The sophomore had a RBI single in the eighth inning followed by a RBI double in the ninth inning.
Haydn McGeary went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three runs driven in. He blasted a solo home run off the hitter's eye in center field in the sixth inning for his 11
th of the season then in the ninth delivered a two-run double to make the score 8-1.
The Mavericks improved their record to 48-9 on the season and are just two wins away from a trip to the NCAA National Championships in Cary, N.C.
Colorado Mesa will await the winner of the Rogers State and Angelo State game that has yet to conclude.
