PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado Mesa's comeback attempt fell just short in the series finale with the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves in a 12-8 loss on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball action.
After the two teams traded blows early, CSU-Pueblo exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-2 lead. The Mavericks chipped away and got one back in the top of the fourth and nearly evened the game in the seventh by plating five runs to make it 9-8.
CSU-Pueblo picked up three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth and the Mavericks couldn't respond.
Trevin Reynolds delivered the big blow in the seventh with a grand slam to left center field. It was his second home run of the season and moved his season RBI total to 16.
Josh Shapiro finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in.
Freshman
Andrew Morris pitched five and a third innings of relief and kept the Mavericks in the game. Morris allowed three runs on two hits, walked three and struck out seven.
