Mavericks Dominate on Senior Day

Olivia Hayden notches 50th goal of the season

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After multiple lighting delays the Mavericks finally got underway against Fort Lewis for the final game of the RMAC regular season.  Once the whistle blew the Mavericks did not let up and cruised to their seventh conference win defeating the Skyhawks 19-1. The Mavericks were on their way to their fourth shutout of the season until a late second half goal by the Skyhawks interrupted them.

Danielle Simpson lead the way for the Mavericks with five goals and recorded her second hat-trick of the season with just 20:10 remaining in the first half when she tallied her third goal of the game and gave the Mavericks a 4-0 lead.

Marissa Leondardi was good for three goals while five other Mavericks recorded multiple goals.

The Mavericks were a perfect 23-of-23 on clears and committed a season-low 13 turnovers.

The Mavericks defense totaled 27 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers. Senior Olivia Hayden led the team with five caused turnovers and nine draw controls.

Cami Huff and Lula Mitchell split time in the net and Huff was awarded the win as starting goalkeeper and added a win to her perfect 3-0 record.

The Mavericks led by 10 at the half and scored the next three goals before FLC recorded their only goal of the game. In that second half Hayden found the net for the 50th time this season and currently sits at 50 goals for the season. The Lakewood, Colo.  native is only nine goals away from tying a school record for goals in a single season.

After the Fort Lewis goal the Mavericks scored five straight to reach 19 goals. The Mavericks have scored 19 or more goals six time this season.
