Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Natalie Baker (Sports Information Graduate Assistant)

No. 14 Mavs Shutout Grizzlies, 19-0

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team (11-2, 5-2) defeated Adams State 19-0 Sunday afternoon with nine different Mavericks recording  goals. This was the Mavs third shutout of the season. 

Mary Koch led the way for the offense recording four goals and three assists which was good enough for a career-high in points at seven. Paige Elliott led the team with eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) while Marissa Leonardi finished with a hat-trick and two ground balls. 

The Mavericks won 18 draw controls and only gave up three to the Grizzlies who took three total shots throughout the game and completed just 6-of-16 clears.

The Mavericks defense caused 16 of the Grizzlies' 19 turnovers.

The Mavs scored two minutes into the game and were up 10-0 with 15:19 remaining in the first half. Danielle Simpson recorded back-to-back goals to close the first half and give the Mavericks a 13-0 lead at the break.

The Mavericks recorded two goals in the opening minutes of the second half before Freshmen Audrey Woodhouse recorded the first goal of her career to give the Mavs a 16-0 lead. Kiley Barber hit the final goal of the game to reach 19 goals with 20:03 remaining. After this the Mavericks took seven different shot clock violations until the game clock expired. 

Lula Mitchel and Cami Huff split time in the net each recording a half. Cami Huff recorded two saves while Lula Mitchell was awarded the win and improved her record to 9-1.

Next Up

The Mavericks will travel to Salt Lake, Utah next Saturday to take on Westminster College at 1 pm on Dumke Field.
