TIFFIN, Ohio – Nationally ranked Mavericks women's lacrosse team won their first road game of the season Monday night against Tiffin University by a score of 14-12. Although it was not until late in the second half the Mavericks were able to secure the win.
Olivia Hayden who won Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the earlier that day scored a team high four goal on just seven shots on goal and assisted on two other goals.
Although she led the team again tonight her POTW honor came from her performances last week against Rockhurst University and Oklahoma Baptist. She totaled 12 ground balls and caused seven turnovers while winning 16 draw controls in the Mavericks 2-0 week.
Game in Review
The Mavericks did not hold a secure lead till the second half of the game as they were down by as many as three goals during the first half. The Dragons scored the first goal of the game and never let the Mavs maintain a lead until 20:40 remaining in the first half when Amanda Barton recorded her fifth goal of the season and the Mavericks has a slight edge at 3-2.
After this point the Dragons scored four straight goals until the Mavericks stopped the scoring run with 13 minutes remaining as they trailed 6-4. To close out the half the Mavericks and Tiffin when back and forth scoring their own goals but the Mavericks trailed 7-8 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room the Dragons scored the first goal but that didn't seem to bother the Mavericks as they went on a 5-1 run to take a 12-10 lead with 17:51 remaining. The Dragons tied it up at 12-12 where they would stay the rest of the game as the Mavericks went on to record two more goals in the final five minutes.

The Mavericks will travel to the University of Findlay for two games to complete their Ohio spring break trip. They will face University of Findlay Wednesday at 2 pm. Following that game they will take on Ursuline College in a neutral site game on Friday at 1 pm.
