GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – In the Mavericks second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game of the season they improved to 1-1 and 4-1 overall after defeating Rockhurst University 18-2 on Wednesday night at Walker Field. Eleven different Mavs scored with Olivia Hayden leading the way with four goals. Paige Elliott recorded six total points to lead the team as she netted two goals and assisted on four Maverick goals.
Three time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Erin Koehler picked up her 100th ground ball in the opening play of the game and totaled two more throughout the Maverick's win for a career total of 102. Alongside her, Olivia Hayden has totaled 138 ground balls in her career and is the Mavericks all time ground ball leader after passing former Maverick Lauren Wells (2011-2014) earlier this season.
The Mavericks defense only allowed 15 shots from the Hawks and doubled their opponents shooting performance taking 31 total shots.
Paige Elliott recorded her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Danielle Simpson to open up the game. The goal was quickly answered by the Hawks. The Maverick's momentum quickly grew as they went on a 14-0 run after the Hawk's equalizing first goal. This run lasted until the 16:04 mark of the second half.
During that 14 goal span nine different Mavs scored and four of them recorded more than one goal including Hayden, Marissa Leonardi, and Abigail Witmer. Witmer's two goals performance was her first goals of the season as she recorded back-to-back goals to give the Mavericks a 9-1 lead.
Daniella Simpson connected for her first goal of the season and gave the Mavericks their final goal of the run when the score read 15-1.
The Hawks scored their final goal of the game with just under twelve minute remaining and the Mavs closed the game on a 3-0 run to reach a final score of 18-3.
The Mavericks and Hawks tied with 11 draw controls each, but it was not until the second half they were able to even the draw controls as Rockhurst led most the game.

The Mavericks will face Oklahoma Baptist University this Friday on Walker Field at 4 pm in another RMAC contest before traveling to Ohio for a three-game spring break trip which features a top 25 match up against No. 22 Tiffin University.
