Griffin records 13th career hat-trick in 16-10 loss

Wulforst IV, Wilson net hat-tricks for CMU

ST. CHARLES, Mo.— Colorado Mesa University's Jack Griffin scored a career-high five goals and recorded his 13th career hat-trick while Joe Wulforst IV scored two goals and assisted on two others in a 16-10 non-conference men's lacrosse defeat at the hands of host Lindenwood University on Saturday morning here at the Lions' Hunter Stadium.

The Mavericks, now 1-1 on the young season, fell behind 6-2 after the opening quarter although they did pull within three (8-5) at the half when Griffin registered a third goal of the afternoon with less than a minute before the break.

However, the Lions would come out and score all three goals of the third quarter and another early in the fourth to pull ahead 12-5 before another 3-0 Maverick run featuring man-up goals by Griffin and Wulforst cut the deficit to 12-8.

Lindenwood then scored the next three goals to ice the win in their season-opener.

The Lions had a 51-33 edge in shots and a 41-22 advantage in ground balls.  They also won 18 of 28 face-offs.

Brandon Wilson, Michael Dasch Jr. and Clayton Grave all had a goal and assist as well for the Mavericks while Austin Bullock registered a team-high six ground balls while assisting on Grave's goal, which came with 10:43 left.

Griffin took 13 shots, including eight on goal to pace CMU while Carter Collins (4), Grant Glazier (3) and Sean Darroch (3) all recorded hat-tricks for the Lions.

The Mavericks will now return home before making the trip to western Missouri to face Rockhurst next Saturday in Kansas City.
