GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks clinched the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference outright title Saturday night in Brownson Arena with a 65-47 win over Adams State combined with a 53-52 Westminster loss to Regis University. Those results put the Mavericks ( 22-3, 19-2) a full two games ahead of Westminster (19-6, 17-4) with just one game to go in the regular season.
This is the ninth title in program history and first since 2015. This was Head Coach Taylor Wagner's fourth RMAC Conference Title.
The Mavs will host the RMAC Tournament which will take place March 5 - 9 in Brownson Arena.
In tonight's win over the Grizzlies the Mavericks shot 40.0 percent (24-of-60) from the field and 30.0 percent (6-of-20) from the three-point line. From the line the Mavericks went 11-of-14 for a 78.6 free throw percentage. Kylyn Rigsby led the way for the Mavericks recording 17 points and going 3-of-4 from the three-point line. Karina Brandon and Sydni Brandon tied for a team high eight rebounds.
The Mavericks outshot Adams State in every category as the Grizzlies went 31.4 percent (16-of-51) from the field and 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from the three-point line. From the free throw line they shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14).
The Mavericks scored 22 points in the first quarter but did not take control of the game till 6:06 when Rigsby's three-pointer gave the Mavs an 8-6 lead. From this point on the Mavericks made a 17-2 run that lasted until the 9:05 mark in the second quarter. At this point the Mavericks led 25-8. The Mavericks limited the Grizzlies to just 19 points in the first half while they doubled the Grizzlies offense recording 43 points. Kylyn Rigsby recorded 15 of her 17 points in the first half.
Coming out of the locker room the Mavericks continued to score as they reached their largest lead of the game when they held a 27 point advantage over the Grizzlies, 56-29 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. After this the Mavericks never got within 15 and the score settled at 65-47 to give Colorado Mesa their third straight victory.

The Mavericks will concluded the regular season next weekend against Western Slope foe Western State Colorado on March 1 at 5:30 pm in Brownson Arena. This game will honor this year's seniors.
