Nichols and Nudo Lead the Way in Mavericks Win over Adams State

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks nearly put up 100 points as they defeated Adams State 96-82 Saturday night in Brownson Arena. With this win the Mavericks improve to 18-9 and 13-8 in RMAC play.  Connor Nichols led the way for the Mavericks with 27 points (10-of-15) and six rebounds. Kenzo Nudo went for 26 points tonight while shooting 4-of-8 from three-point range. Brandon Hoffer led from the point guard position recording five assists.

As a team the Mavericks shot 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the field and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from beyond the arc. The Mavericks shot a season high 92.0 percent (23-of-25) from the free-throw line. Five different Mavericks went 100.0 percent from the charity stripe.

The Grizzlies fell to 10-16 and 10-11 in RMAC play after tonight's loss. John Dewey led the way for the Grizzlies recording a game high 33 points, five rebounds, and nine assists. As a team ASU shot 44.4 percent (32-of-72) from the field and 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from the three-point line. They went 15-of-20 from the line for a 75.0 free-throw shooting percentage.

The Mavericks scored 49 points in the first half has they drained five three pointers. Nudo and Walters each hit two a piece on only a combined nine attempts. After battling back- and-fourth the Mavericks jumped out to a 26-15 lead with 9:58 remaining in the first half. That lead was cut to six with in two minutes before the Mavs closed out the first half on a 19- 9 run to reach a 49-31 score at the break.

Coming out of the locker room the Mavericks continued their scoring and extend their lead 72-44 at the 12:30 mark to reach their largest lead of the game. The Mavericks got outscored 10-2 in the final two minutes but the Mavs settled the score 96-82.

Next Up

The Mavericks will host Western State Colorado March 1 at 7 pm in Brownson Arena. Before tip-off the Mavericks will honors this year's senior for their final regular season game at home.
