Mavericks Head Out on Final Regular Season Roadie

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team will head out on their final road trip of the regular season this weekend and will play a pair of games against Colorado Christian and Regis.
 
THE STANDINGS
Colorado Mesa currently sits in seventh place in the RMAC standings with a two-game lead on the ninth-place team in the conference. They are just one game out of third place in the conference which would give the Mavericks a home RMAC tournament game.
 
The Mavericks were picked to finish 13th in the conference this season.
 
SCORING LEADER
Senior Connor Nichols continues to lead the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in scoring at 20.9 points per game. Nichols has been in double-digits in 22 of the 23 games played this season and set his career-high of 37 points in the Mavericks home win over Black Hills State on January 5.
 
The Scottsdale native is shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 84.1 percent from the charity stripe this season, both marks rank in the top ten in the RMAC.
 
DISHING IT OUT
Senior Brandon Hoffer leads the conference in both total assists (104) and assists per game (4.5) in his final campaign. Hoffer had a season-high nine assists in the Mavericks big regional win over Texas A&M-Commerce back in November.
 
Teammate Tommy Nuno ranks fourth in the two categories as well. Nuno has 91 assists on the season and had a season-high 12 assists in the win over Fisher College.
 
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
The Mavericks enjoyed one of their best shooting nights of the season in the last meeting with Colorado Christian. The Mavericks won 94-63 but shot 61.4 percent from the field, their second-best shooting percentage of the season. Damon Dubots led the Mavericks with 19 points in the game.
 
The Cougars are out of the hunt for the RMAC Tournament but have the opportunity to play spoiler in their five remaining games.
 
Jeremiah Hanson leads the Cougars with 13.2 points per game and had 10 points in the previous meetings.

SCOUTING THE RANGERS
Regis defeated Colorado Mesa back on February 1, 78-75 on a last second, three-pointer by Jarrett Broadbeck. The Mavericks led by as many as 13 points with just 10:52 to play but couldn't maintain the lead.
 
The Rangers are second place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, four games behind conference leader Colorado School of Mines.
 
Broadbeck continues to lead the team in scoring as he averages 18.3 points per game. The Mavericks kept him in check in the previous meeting as he had 13 points but had the big bucket at the end of the game as time expired.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Mavericks will be home for the final three games of the regular season beginning next Friday against RMAC rival Fort Lewis. On Saturday, the Mavericks will take on Adams State as a part of Alumni night.
