GOLDEN, Colo. – Junior Daniella Turner recorded a career high 29 points to lift the Mavericks over the Orediggers,55-53, Saturday night in a conference game inside the Lockridge Arena. The Mavericks improve to 6-2 on the year and are a perfect 2-0 in conference games to begin the regular season.
Turner has now broken her career high in back-to-back games after scoring 24 points against the Mountain Lions last night and a new career high 29 points in tonight's contest. Turner knocked down 11 field goals in tonight's game which is also a career high for the Florida native.
Despite getting outscored in the final two quarters the Mavs were able to hold off the Orediggers and maintain a lead throughout the entire game after the opening plays.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 16-10 lead after the opening quarter and saw their largest lead of the game with 7:46 to play in the quarter two after Turner recorded five consecutive points to begin the second quarter. By halftime the Mavs held a 33-24 advantage.
The Orediggers outscored the Mavs 16-11 in the third quarter and tied the game 40-40 with under two minutes to play. The Mavericks answered with four straight free-throws from Sariah Wi Neera and Sydni Brandon to hold a 44-40 edge entering the final quarter.
Kelsey Siemons drained a three-pointer to begin the fourth quarter and extended the Mavs' lead the seven points. The Orediggers inched their way back to tie the game 53-53 with less than one-minute remaining. Turner answered with a bucket in the paint to relieve the pressure and Colorado School of Mines came up with an empty possession in their final play of the game before the score settled, 55-53.

The Mavericks will return to Brownson Arena next weekend for games against MSU Denver and Chadron State. The game against MSU Denver (Dec 13) will be televised as a part of the Division II Basketball Showcase hybrid package and will be distributed online through NCAA social media accounts (facebook.com/ncaadivisionii) and Twitter (@NCAADII). The game will begin at 5:30 pm.
The game against Chadron State will take place Dec 14 at 5:30 pm and will be streamed on the RMAC network.
