Solid Shooting Continues for Men's Basketball

GUNNISON, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team completed the 2-0 weekend with an 89-66 win over the Midland University Warriors in the final day of the Comfort Inn Classic at Paul Wright Gym.

The Mavericks trailed just once in the game at 3-2 just 57 seconds into the game but never trailed after that. They built a 33-point lead with 12:50 to play in the second half after a Georgie Dancer jumper in the paint made it 73-40.

Tommy Nuno and Georgie Dancer led all scorers in the game with 16 points. Nuno was 7-for-7 from the field while Dancer was 6-for-10 including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

David Rico finished with a season-high 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field while Clay Verk and Kolton Peterson each finished with 10 points to round out the Mavericks in double figures.

Michael Skinner had his first game where he didn't score in double figures but still filled up the stat sheet. Skinner finished with nine points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot.

Colorado Mesa shot 56.9 percent (33-of-58) from the field including 47.6 from beyond the arc. They were just 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the free-throw line on what would be considered a good shooting night.

The Mavericks will return home for the Thanksgiving break and will open up the home portion of the schedule with the annual Holiday Inn Airport Thanksgiving Classic. Colorado Mesa will take on Missouri Western State on Friday at 7pm followed by a Saturday matchup with Montana Western.
