Mavericks Defeated by Pioneers in Saturday’s Exhibition

DENVER, Colo. – Daniella Turner shined for 25 points in an exhibition game against the Denver University Pioneers Saturday afternoon, but the Mavericks ultimately fell 95-79 inside Hamilton Gymnasium despite holding a one point lead at halftime.
 

Turner went 9-of-20 from the field and drained three three-pointers while shooting 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Morgan Myers was the only other Maverick to score in double digits posting 13 points and shooting 4-of-6 from the field. 
 

The Pioneers had five scorers in double-digits and were led by Lauren Loven who recorded 17 points. 
 

The Mavericks outrebounded the Pios by one (40-39), but committed 27 turnovers which allowed the Pios to score 31 points.
 

The Mavs got out to a 5-0 lead in the opening minute of the game and held a lead until the 7:03 mark in the first quarter when the game was tied 8-8. The Pioneers never gave up a lead throughout the first quarter and held a 29-20 lead after the opening ten minutes. 
 

Kylyn Rigsby scored seven points in the second quarter and made a last second three-pointer to give the Mavs a 38-37 lead entering the break. 
 

The Mavericks gave up 31 points in the third quarter and suffered a double-digit deficit entering the final stretch of the game. The Pioneers extended their lead to as much as 23 points in the fourth quarter before the game settled at 95-79. 
 

The Mavericks will officially begin their season in Stephenville, Texas against Cameron University on Nov 8.
