ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks men's soccer team (8-3-2, 6-2-2 RMAC) defeated Dixie State 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium behind a goal from senior Lawan Abary. Abary headed the goal in the 72nd minute following a Mavericks corner kick. Ethan Anderson was awarded the assist.
Abary now has four goals on the year to lead the Mavericks and 18 goals in his career goals.
The Trailblazers outshot the Mavericks 5-4 and only recorded one shot on goal throughout the game that Brendan Brown saved as the Mavericks goalkeeper throughout the 90-minutes. The Mavericks totaled two shots on goal that were each taken by Abary.
The only other Mavericks to record shots were Niall Shaffery and Ethan Anderson.
Next Up
After a four game road stretch where the Mavericks went 2-2 they will return home on Friday October 25 for a game against South Dakota Mines at 4 pm. On October 27 they will face conference leading Colorado School of Mines at 1:30 pm.
