COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team (7-2-2, 5-1-2 RMAC) defeated the UCCS Mountain Lions 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Mountain Lion Stadium. The Mavericks scored a goal in each half and recorded five saves to get their fourth shutout of the year. Each shutout has been credited to Brendan Brown who played all 90 minutes in the net for the Mavericks this game.
Peter Vandam recorded his first goal of the season in the 37thminute which was assisted by freshman Raymond Jackson. This goal is just the second of the Montana natives career.
The Mavericks defended five shots in the first half and recorded two saves that allowed them to enter the locker room with a 1-0 lead. It wasn't until the 83rdminute that the Mavericks recorded their second goal of the game.
Lawan Abary found the net for the third time this season to secure the win. Noah Rosenberg was awarded the assist which was just the second of his career. This goal was Abary's 17thof his two-year Maverick career and with games still to play the Niger native is currently fifth in the CMU career goals record. He sits just one goal away from tying fourth.
The Mavericks will stay on the road and compete next weekend against Westminster College and Dixie State University. The game against Westminster will take place on Oct 18 on Dumke Field. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 4 pm. On Sunday Oct 20 the Mavericks will play Dixie State at 1:30 pm on the Trailblazer Stadium.
