DENVER— The nation's 16
th-ranked Regis University Rangers hit .443 and recorded 12 blocks as a team in a 3-set (25-23, 25-18, 25-15) Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over the visiting Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on Saturday afternoon.
The Rangers won for the fifth straight time and improved to 14-3 overall and to 8-1 in the RMAC while the Mavericks ended a 4-match road stretch with a 2-2 mark while falling to 10-7 overall and to 6-3 in conference play, which is now 50 percent complete.
The Rangers had a 50-34 edge in total kills as Nikki Kennedy recorded 12 kills and a pair of blocks while hitting .476. Meanwhile, Kristen Hornung and Isabelle Gosar added 10 kills apiece while hitting over .500. Hornung was also in on ten of the Rangers' blocks.
The Mavericks had just three blocks and hit .152 throughout the match.
Offensively,
Camille Smith had seven kills and hit .600 to pace the Mavericks.
Kerstin Layman had nine digs.
The Mavericks enjoyed a 6-1 spurt in the opening stages of the match and took an 11-7 first set lead. However, the Rangers went on a 6-0 run of their own moments later to take a 14-12 lead en-route to the first set lead.
The Rangers then hit .536 as a team in both the second and third sets and dominated the rest of the match.
The Mavericks will now return home for seven of their final nine matches starting Friday against Black Hills State.
