Duran scores 1,000th Career Point in 56-42 Maverick Win Over SDSM

Taylor Wagner collects 150th win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Colorado Mesa Mavericks women's basketball team picked up their sixth conference win over South Dakota School of Mines by a score of 56-42. The Mavericks had three double-digit scorers and senior Jaylyn Duran notched her 1,000th career point during the second quarter after she hit her fourth field goal. This win was number 150 for head coach Taylor Wagner and the Mavericks improved to 9-1 overall and remain perfect at 6-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

Nine different Mavericks contributed to the win tonight in Brownson Arena.

Sophomore Standouts

Katrina Chandler, Kelsey Siemons and Sierra McNicol were some of the Mavericks best shooters tonight all shooting above 50%. Siemons (4-8 FG) finished with 10 total points while Katrina Chandler (5-7 FG) finished with a career high 11 points. Chandler shot 71% from the field and a perfect 100% from beyond the arc making her only three-point shot attempt.

Although a low scorer McNicol was efficient going 2-3 from the field and contributing four points.

Duran hits 1,000 Career Points

Despite a season low 13 points Duran hit enough shots to collect her 1,000th point. She is only the 19th Mavericks to do so. Following her 1,000th point in the second quarter there was a dead ball that allowed the crowd to applause the Pueblo, Colo. native for all her efforts while wearing a Colorado Mesa uniform.

Every season as a Maverick Duran has improved her scoring average. During her freshman campaign she averaged just 5.3 points which she then improved to 8.6 points during her sophomore season. She nearly doubled her average last season when she was scoring 14.9 point per game. Now as a senior she is leading the RMAC with 24.2 points per game.

With Duran's team high 13 points she now has 1,005 career points.
