Romero, Lodermeier Earn Pins in Win over Simon Fraser

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa and Simon Fraser split the eight contested bouts but the Mavericks were the recipient of a pair of forfeits in a 32-14 win on Thursday evening in Brownson Arena in Super Region 6 action.
 
Junior Tim Romero opened the night off with a pin of Pritpaul Johal at the 6:29 mark of the match. Romero took a 2-0 lead into the third period and was able to work a takedown into a pin to give Colorado Mesa the 6-0 advantage early.
 
After a Simon Fraser win at 133 pounds, seventh-ranked Eduardo Penha extended the Maverick lead to 9-3 after a 7-1 decision over Randy MacDonald at 141 pounds. Penha had over four minutes of riding time in the bout and dominated, allowing just the one escape in the match.
 
A pair of forfeits for the Mavericks sandwiched around a decision for The Clan made the match 21-6 in favor of Colorado Mesa.
 
Simon Fraser and Colorado Mesa split the final four matches with each earning a technical fall. The Clan earned a decision at 174 pounds while the Mavericks earned a pin at 197 pounds.
 
Nolan Krone earned a 16-0 technical win over Simon Fraser's Doug Peyser at 184 pounds while TJ Lodermeier secured a pin at 197 pounds over Nolan Badovinac at the 1:19 mark of the match.
 
The Mavericks will send six wrestlers to the Western Open on Friday before taking the rest of the weekend off. They will embark on a long road trip next weekend for four duals in Nebraska against Chadron State and the Midwest Duals at Kearney.
